This has taken me almost three months, possibly longer, and after much toil I’ve completed my first legit storyboarded sequence. It’s a little more detailed than an actual storyboard would be, but being as it’s for my college applications, I think it’s worth the trouble. This is the entire board, large files to make reading easier.
Some thematic background: Virtual Reality takes place 600 odd years in the future. Pollution, war, and natural disasters, among other things, have rendered the planet almost unlivable. The benevolent TREE corporation came up with a solution: Giant domed city-states, complete with all the air, water, food, and consumer goods humanity could ever need. But soon, people grow restless; they miss the outdoors, and depression is common. TREE solves this problem as well. They develop a fully simulated world, the Virtual Reality, a program that is able to simulate life pre-dome, without all the pesky things about being alive, like pain, death, starvation, etc. Those who can’t afford an account are ostracized from society.
To get to the VR, people have to pass through a ‘portal’, a sort of projection of the sub conscious of the user. It’s usually a place that the user idolizes or feels safe, such as a bedroom, or a place you could no longer go, other than the VR.
Leto 00785, the girl here, is a ‘Ghost’, a person bred and raised by TREE to keep and protect the VR. Ghosts are in charge of making sure the VR doesn’t harm people, which usually involves scientists and programmers testing on them. They also work as inter dome police, making sure no one hacks or otherwise harms the VR. Leto’s portal is a sunny field, full of dandelions. Her entire life, she’s seen pictures and videos of nature, and is fascinated by it. Even though it’s not real, it’s the place she loves the most.
